The Wicked Saint
"Greedy" by Ariana Grande - Cover
For this project, I collaborated with two of my peers, Doug (hueyislazy, and Lia (L.I.A).
Doug was in charge of the drums and concert rhythms, as well as the majority of arrangement choices made for the cover. Keeping the modulation to C#m, as well as changing the bridge's meter to 7/8, were both of Doug's ideas. He also did a great job grounding Lia and me. If either of us were adding too much to the production or changing something too drastically, Doug would immediately call it out. As a result, our cover felt quite full, but it didn't feel overstuffed.
Lia was in charge of the vocal processing, vocal harmonies, and most of the instrumentation. Doug always said Lia was the smartest in the group. She consistently made sure everything was practical and efficient. Whenever we were mixing, whether a change was big or small, I'd make sure to ask for her perspective. Lia was also one of the singers on the track, and her performance was nothing short of spectacular.
I was in charge of the harmony, sound design, and operating Ableton Live. While I love being the guy in the chair, I had to count on Doug and Lia to make sure I didn't overthink anything. Adding the dominant V in the chorus was one of my favorite additions, and I loved creating new synth patches just for this project. Singing the bridge was an interesting experience; I had to rehearse it a lot before recording my vocals. Mixing the track was quite fun as well, and it was even more enjoyable with Doug and Lia.
